Match Secretary’s Report – 15.12.19

The AGM was held in the main Clubhouse on Monday 9th December, with just under 50 members in attendance. The main items discussed and voted on were the fees for the fothcoming season, which for full membership there was a modest increase of £5. The fees for all other memberships will remain the same as last year. The election of office bearers then took place with Jean Westwater elected as Ladies’ President and Judd Clark accepting the position of Gents’ President and elected as Club President. The Vice Presidents are Bridget Whyte and David Baldie, with Catriona Sword re-elected as Secretary and Clarence Machado taking on the position of Treasurer. The Match Secretaries are Ann Young and Peter McTavish.

There will be entertainment in the Club on 24th December and 31st December and tickets can be bought by contacting Rhona Bunting.

On Sunday morning, the final game in the Fife Fours was played at East Fife Indoor B.C. against Auchtermuchty B.C.with a win in one of the three games required to guarantee a place in the knock out stages. On Rink 1, M.Comrie, D.Baldie, B.Bell and D.Comrie (skip) started strongly and soon led 13-2 after six ends played. They got stuck on 13 for 3 ends, before closing out the game with a 19-10 win. On rink 2, Mrs.A.Young, Ms.R.Bunting, R.Crawford and T.Pettigrew (skip) were initially involved in a close game, with the score level 5-5 after 6 ends played, but soon took total command of their game to win 21-6 and maintain their 100% record in the competition. On rink 3, J.Lafferty, T.Young, Jim Clark and S.McFarlane (skip) seemed to be coasting to a win, as they led 12-2 after 7 ends played, but lost a count of 5 shots on the next end. The game was then levelled 14-14, when S.McFarlane inadvertently
moved the jack to concede 2 shots, when they were lying 3 shots. The loss of 1 shot on the last end gave victory to their opponents by 14-15. This gave Markinch an overall win by 5 points to 2 and as Methihil B.C. also won 5-2, then Markinch topped the group on shots and will play Thornton B.C. in the knockout stages, with the game scheduled for Sunday 3rd Feb. The team will be selected the week before and posted on the notice board and sent out by text.
