Match Secretary’s Report – 10.02.19

The Fife Fours competition, played at East Fife Indoor Bowling Club has reached the knock-out stage and
Markinch B.C. faced Windygates B.C.on Sunday morning. On rink 4, Ms.R.Bunting, Judd Clark,
R.Crawford and T.Pettigrew (skip) took a 3-0 lead on the first end and although it was a very close game
they held the lead all the way. The teams were level playing the last end, but Marlinch picked up the shot
to win 9-8. On rink 5, J.Lafferty, Jim Clark, J.Davies Jnr and C.Falconer (skip) trailed 3-6 after 6 ends
played, but led 7-6 after 8 ends played. However, after dropping 4 shots on the ninth end, to trail 7-10,
they were lying 2 shots on the tenth end, before C.Falconer inadvertantly gave the shot away to trail 7-11.
On the last end trailing 8-11, they were lying game with 4 shots, before the Windygates skip, J.Smith,
played the last bowl to turn one of his own bowls in for the shot and win the game 12-8. On rink 6,
B.Bell, P. McTavish, S.McFarlane and D.Comrie (skip) were up against it, when they lost a count of 5
shots on the first end. They were saved again on the next end, when D.Comrie (skip) drew the shot with
another count of 5 shots against him. The game was almost out of reach when Markinch lost another
count of 6 shots to trail 2-11, after only 4 ends played. However, Markinch still tried to battle back into
the game, but each time they were lying several shots, the Windygates skip, C.Stein, either played with
weight or drew the shot. It was typical of the game with Markinch lying 5 shots on the last end, which
would have ended with a 15-17 defeat, C.Stein fired, hitting the head and ending up lying 4 shots for a
winning score of 21-10. The overall result was two wins against one win and Markinch were knocked out
of the competition. The fees for the forthcoming outdoor season are now due and can be paid to the
Treasurer, who will be at the Club every Wednesday evening.
