The friendly fixture on Saturday at Markinch was the first leg of the Balblair Shield against our local
rivals Balgonie B.C. This is the 76th year that this trophy has been played for and both clubs were
determined to build up a lead for the second leg to be played at Balgonie B.C. later in the season. The
friendly/competitive play on all six rinks was what bowling is all about and the sunshine made it all the
more enjoyable. At the end of the game the scorecards were gathered in and there were wins for
Mrs.C.Campbell (16-13), Mrs.C.Sword (21-9) and P.McTavish (16-12), defeats for Judd Clark (8-18) and
B.Bell (12-13), with a draw for T.Pettigrew (16-16). This gave a total score of 89 shots to 81 for
Markinch, who will take a slender lead of 8 shots into the second leg. The competition sheets are on the
boards in the locker room and the Ladies competitions being drawn in week commencing 6th May with the Gents competitions drawn on Monday 20th May. The Fife and Scottish draws are on the notice board
and members who are nominated to play should make themselves aware of where and when they are due
to play. The first Div 1 League game in the Wemyss League is this Friday at Markinch, with Kinglassie
providing the opposition. The team to play will be announced this week. The draw for the Wemyss
competitions was carried out last Tuesday and will be posted on the notice board when they are handed in
by the Wemyss League Secretary.
