It was a quiet week at Markinch this week, with the Seniors game in the Wemyss League scheduled for Wednesday afternoon cancelled, as Windygates B.C. could not get enough players. However, there was a Division 1 home game against Kircaldy West End B.C. played on Friday evening. On rink 2, M.Dewar, S.McFarlane, T.Pettigrew and T.Young (skip) won only 4 of the first 13 ends to trail 7-16, before scoring an incredible count of 7 shots to only trail 14-16. However, it was a false dawn, as they lost the last 3 ends to lose their game 14-25. On rink 3, M.Comrie, K.Bunting, Jamie Cameron and D.Comrie (skip) were level 8-8 after 10 ends played before taking the lead 10-8. The loss of 5 shots on the next end meant they trailed 10-13, but won 4 of the next 5 ends to recapture the lead 15-14 playing the last end. Unfortunately, the visitors picked up the shot on the last end, so the game ended with a 15-15 draw. On rink 5 (actually rink 6), B.Drysdale, Jim Clark, J.Davies and C.Falconer (skip) were as usual in great form on their favourite rink and led 9-3 after 8 ends played. They continued to dominate the game and lost only three of the final 9 ends to run out convincing winners by 21-8. When the scores were added up, it resulted in a welcome 5-3 win for Markinch, with another difficult away game at Methilhill B.C. next Friday evening. Any member wanting to be considered for selection to play for the Club in the Fife Top 10 competition must add there name to the sheet on the noticeboard, with the first game due to be played on Thursday 13th June. The SWBA playdowns were played at the weekend and there was a success for the Ladies from Markinch in the Pairs, Triples, Fours and Senior Fours. This is great news for the Club and hopefully, there will be good travelling support to Strathmiglo B.C. on Saturday 8th June, when the ladies will be playing with the opportunity of heading to the Scottish finals at Northfield B.C, Ayr in July. There is a prize bingo evening followed by cabaret scheduled for Friday 7th June starting at 7.30pm. Tickets costing only £3 are on sale at the Club.
