Match Secretary’s Report – 19.05.19

There was a Ladies friendly fixture away at Crail B.C. on Wednesday afternoon, where there were wins for R.Bunting (18-3) and S.Watson (12-3) and an overall win by 30 shots to 3. The first game in the Seniors’ League in the Wemyss & District Leagues was against Buckhaven B.C. In the home game, D.Oliphant, R.Marchbank, J.Lafferty and C.Nash (skip) trailed 8-10 after 10 ends, but lost the last 5 ends to lose the game 8-20. In the away game, D.Whyte, J.Hay, B.Bell and T.Young were leading 12-7 after 11 ends, but lost the last 4 ends and the game by 12-14. Not the best start, but hopefully things will improve. On Friday evening, the Division 1 game in the Wemyss League was an away trip to Balgonie B.C. with a win essential to get the Markinch league challenge back on track. On rink 3, M.Comrie, B.Bell, Jamie Cameron and D.Comrie (skip) were level 9-9 after 7 ends played, then won the next 4 ends to lead 16-9. The home rink put in a bit of a fightback, but Markinch still managed to win 20-14. On rink 4, B.Drysdale, Jim Clark, J.Davies Jnr and C.Falconer (skip) were trailing 8-10 after 8 ends played, before
taking total control of the game, winning 7 of the next 8 ends to lead 21-11, finishing with a 21-15 victory. On rink 6, M.Dewar, S.McFarlane, T.Young and R.Crawford (skip) were not finding it easy and trailed 3-8 after 7 ends played, but won 5 of the next 6 ends to lead 16-10 and held on for a 17-15 win, giving Markinch a very welcome 8-0 victory and put themselves back into a league challenging position. The next game is a home game against Kirkcaldy West End on Friday evening, with the team selected midweek. On Saturday, the first leg of the MacArthur Cup was played at Buckhaven B.C. in weather akin to October, however, it was played in the usual serious/ friendly banter. There were wins for J.Dewar (9-7) and J.Hay (12-10), losses for B.Bell (12-13) and T.Young (6-15), resulting in an overall defeat by 39-45, giving Buckhaven a lead of 6 shots going into the 2nd leg later in the season, which Markinch are convinced they will overturn the deficit to win the trophy. On Sunday afternoon, the first trophy of the season, the Him ‘ Her Trophy, was played for, with 12 couples drawn into 2 groups and played in pleasant weather conditions. At the end of the group games, P.McTavish and Ms.R.Bunting had won all their 5 games in Group A, while in Group B, Jim and Sharon Clark finished top with 12 points. The final was an
absorbing game, but in the end, it was P.McTavish and Rhona Bunting who held on to pick up the Trophy. There are still names required for the Fife Top 10, which starts in June and members should write their names on the sheet ASAP. The draw for the Gents’ competitions is taking place on Monday and will be displayed on the board in the locker room.
