There was a Ladies friendly fixture played on Thursday at Dovecot Park B.C. In the Triples game there was a narrow win for J.Westwater (13-12) and in the Pairs ganme there was a 1 shot defeat (14-15) for A.Young, resulting in an overall draw for the game. On Friday evening, the Division 1 fixture in the Wemyss & District League was a visit to Thornton B.C., who are the current Div 1 champions. This was always going to be a difficult game and as the game progressed this proved to be the case. On rink 1, M.Comrie, K.Bunting, Jamie Cameron and D.Comrie (skip) were 0-9 down after 6 ends and although they only trailed 8-12 after 10 ends, that was as good as it got, as they eventually lost 10-20. On rink 2, B.Drysdale, P.McTavish, J.Davies Jnr and C.Falconer (skip) were level 4-4 after 5 ends played, but over the next three ends they lost 5 shots, picked up 3 shots, then lost another 5 shots to trail 7-14. Unfortunately, this game went the same as the game on rink 1, with another loss, this time by 9-24. In the final game on rink 3, M.Dewar, Jim Clark, T.Young and R.Crawford (skip) were at least keeping their game quite close and only trailed 6-7 after 8 ends played. The remainder of the game saw the home team stretch their slender lead to 8-17 and despite a spirited last 2 ends the result was a 13-17 defeat. The overall result was an 8-0 defeat, which will have to improve over the next few games, if Markinch are to provide a serious title challenge. The first game in the Seniors League is on Wednesday and the team selected is on the notice board. There were two friendly fixtures played at the weekend, with Crieff B.C. the visitors on Saturday. In glorious sunshine, there was a home win by 117-78, with individual wins for Mrs.F.Cameron (31-14), P.McTavish (28-10) and T.Young (24-11) and defeats for Mrs N.Fernie (16-20) and Mrs.S.Watson (18-23). A special mention had to go to Ladies President, Mrs.F.Cameron, who produced numerous winning bowls, as she single handed won her game, especially when it was from a losing position on numerous ends. On Sunday, there was another home friendly, with Auchermuchty B.C. the visitors on another sunny, warm day. The result was a 73-53 victory for the visitors, with a win for T.Young (26-12), but defeats for Mrs A.Young (9-25), Mrs.C.Campbell (5-21) and P.McTavish (13-15).
The Ladies competitions have all been drawn and are on the notice board in the locker room. The closing date for the Gents’ competitions is this Sunday (19th), with the draws are being done on Monday 20th so all entries must be complete by then. The Him and Her Trophy is being played next Sunday and members are urged to enter their names on the sheet in the locker room and support the competition.
